Famed designer, Alexander McQueen, commits suicide

The fashion community is saddened today at the news of the death of British fashion designer, Alexander McQueen. Especially considering that today is opening day of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week events in Bryant Park. This fashion week season was to be memorable as it is marked to be the last fashion week held at Bryant Park. In September, the event will be moved to the Lincoln Center. However, the death of McQueen is sure to be what will stay in the minds and hearts of the countless fashionistas who loved his work. McQueen was 40 years old.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Alexander McQueen committed suicide. The British paper says the designer was found dead at his flat in London, and is believed to have hung himself. His mother had died a few days earlier. A source at McQueen's office confirmed the suicide, saying, "It is a tragic loss. We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family." Details of his death have not been released yet. McQueen, who was discovered by Isabella Blow, was extremely close to the fashion editor. Blow killed herself in 2007. We will update as we hear news.
